Wedding Wednesday (No Cameras, Please!)

Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about wedding guest etiquette, specifically when it comes to guests filming and/or taking photos during your event. Not only does this distract from the natural “flow” of the event, but also your guests’ emotions will not be captured as candidly as you would hope. Instead, you will see several people looking at their devices instead of focusing on you.

I also have to sympathize with my industry colleagues: the photographers. Let’s face it, when you invest in a professional, qualified, and experienced photographer, it is money well spent. Unfortunately, they often times have to work around Uncle Bob’s tripod that he has placed in the middle of the aisle, or other guests who are constantly standing in the way as they try to capture your precious moments. Simply put, it’s rude and potentially a safety hazard. What if someone trips over Uncle Bob’s equipment?

That being said, most couples aren’t quite sure how to politely ask their guests-especially Uncle Bob- to put away their devices and simply enjoy the day. Well, now you can create or purchase special cards to let your guest know of your wishes for “no cameras, please”. With a thoughtful or even humorous note included with invitations, on ceremony seats, or at reception place settings, your guests will be fully aware, and will likely honor your request. If not, you can always ask your wedding planner to politely remind any rule-breakers to put their devices away. A couple’s simple promise to share the professional (awesome) images when they become available should ease their minds.

Like what you see? Your photographer can order them, or you can create your own! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this…
